8,7/10
Some of the most outlandish and generally weird experiences I've come across in the hip-hop genre, and this is not a complaint at all. Taking still flamboyant styles and pushing them to a extreme of surreal and eclectic deconstruction.
Edward Skeletrix's sophomore album Museum Music can be described as a dissonant version of already innovative derivations of Hip-Hop, from the progressive and almost apocalyptic production on Plastic Body to Choral samples on Congratulations that make for a ethereal and mysterious sound. This energy is held on for 29 Tracks divided in 2 volumes, one under the Edward Skeletrix pseudonym and the other on the alternative alias Im A Monster.
Edward Skeletrix's side of the record focuses on a more alienated and ominous style, often not featuring drums and instead focusing on Synthesized sounds that would be more at home in a IDM record. The Im A Monster section of the record however, is more similar to other things to come out of the creative parts of the Underground, making for a more accessible, yet still innovative listen.
In my opinion, this album manages to bring new imaginative ideas to the table with very few low points, it consistently impresses me for every listen yet it still doesn't get more wild than it should be. For these reasons this record has a huge replayability for me, and makes this a serious contender for what could be my favorite record of the year when it ends.
